Kirklees’ music community is active and vibrant, reaching all corners of our towns and villages. At its heart are the dedicated and talented people who live here. Who come together to connect with each other based on a shared love of making and creating music. From our choirs, orchestras, brass bands, amateur dramatics, ukulele groups, societies and clubs; across our towns and villages there are many ways to discover and be part of our rich musical story.
Year of Music will champion this grass roots activity which takes place across all our communities.
Music has a role to play in tackling loneliness, music provides opportunities, spaces and places where people and communities are more connected and support each other to develop meaningful relationships and reduce isolation. One of the aims for Year of Music 2023, is to see a growth in music-based opportunities created by, and for, residents, their neighbourhoods and communities.
The Year of Music will ensure inclusivity through representation of Kirklees’ eclectic and diverse music community, voices at all levels will be heard and opportunities will be open for all to engage with, create and enjoy all of the benefits that music brings to us all.
