Hi Mandeep, what is it that you do? 

I am the Creative Director for Let’s Go Yorkshire. Let’s Go Yorkshire is a community arts organisation set up in 2011 to develop innovative projects reflecting contemporary British culture, As the Creative director I develop projects and curate exhibitions. focusing on aspects of local cultural heritage that is largely hidden from and unrecorded by mainstream history.

What does music mean to you? 

Music is universal and found in all cultures. It also has a positive impact on health and wellbeing.

What was the first piece of music you brought? 

I bought my first 7 inch records from WH Smith in Huddersfield many years ago…can’t remember which records they were though.

Why are you taking part in the Year of Music 2023? 

To celebrate Huddersfield’s unique musical heritage.

What is fab about the Kirklees Music scene and what could be better? 

Huddersfield has a vibrant music scene but more needs to be done to celebrate the contribution that ethnic diversity has made to the musical fabric of the town.

What is the best live music experience you have attended?

Manu Chao on stage at Glastonbury.

What current artist/band/ song are you listening to? 

Currently listening to Ba Ba Boom by The Jamaicans.

What three things would you like to see happen at the festival?  

More street parties!
